Thousands of households had the opportunity to get a break on their mortgage payments during the Covid-19 pandemic. Foreclosures on many residential mortgages were prohibited, which certainly helped avoid a homelessness crisis during the pandemic. However, the forbearance period ended on December 31, 2021 and mortgage lenders have resumed foreclosures. If your mortgage loan is federally insured or guaranteed (FHA, VA, USDA, FNMA, etc.) there may be several options available to modify your mortgage instead of having to come up with all the missed payments at once. The National Consumer Law Center (NCLC) has put together a summary of the available alternatives, with multiple links to additional resources. We have provided it in this article as a service to our readers. If you need assistance defending a foreclosure, don’t hesitate to contact us to discuss options.
