Firm Overview

DelCotto Law Group is a unique law firm offering professional services for businesses, business owners, and individuals seeking effective and creative solutions to financial obstacles. DLG assesses all available and viable options for clients, represents clients in bankruptcies and other debtor/creditor proceedings from the simple to the complex, and provides strong legal counsel in any type of commercial litigation or mediation matters.

Mission

DLG's mission is to provide "best practices" legal services in all debtor/creditor-related situations, concentrating in debt restructuring, bankruptcy proceedings, and commercial disputes that lead to litigation, while following the Firm's philosophies of civility, professionalism, creativity, passion, and serving as advocate and counselor to its clients. DLG employees take pride in being accessible and responsive to a client's particular needs, while recognizing that there is often more than one solution to every problem. DLG fully explores with its clients the pros and cons of each option, and implements the agreed upon strategy only after engaging in thorough analysis of possible short term and long range results. The goal is to obtain the best possible outcome for the client under the circumstances presented.

Our Team

Founding Member Laura Day DelCotto is a Fellow in the American College of Bankruptcy-an honor bestowed on only a small percentage of bankruptcy and insolvency professionals nationwide, based on the highest professional qualifications and ethical standards, character, integrity, leadership, and a proven record of the highest standards of service to the insolvency profession. Ms. DelCotto is certified* in Business Bankruptcy Law by the American Board of Certification, a long-time member of the American Bankruptcy Institute and "AV" rated by Martindale-Hubbell, amongst other professional honors. Together with the DLG team of attorneys and paraprofessionals, the Firm pays close attention to detail and takes a results-oriented and hands-on approach to each engagement it accepts. With DLG's assistance, many businesses and individuals have resolved financial crises.

DLG's senior attorney team consists of Ms. DelCotto, Dean Langdon and Michael Gartland, each former practitioners at "big law" firms. With 20 to 25 plus years experience each, they are well versed in matters accepted by the Firm. Ms. DelCotto and Mr. Langdon speak and publish regularly in their fields. Having several paraprofessionals who each have 20 plus years experience, as well as excellent junior members on its attorney and paraprofessional teams, DLG is a well-rounded firm that quickly and efficiently handles all matters large and small. DLG represents clients in federal district and bankruptcy courts in both the Eastern and Western Districts of Kentucky, as well as in bankruptcy courts in other jurisdictions, and state courts throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Philosophy

DLG's philosophy is driven by several key concepts, the most important being "no surprises" and "making a difference." The DLG team is a true team, not a random group of people from a national or multi-office law firm who may barely know each other. The professionals and paraprofessionals at DLG realize that many of their clients find themselves in extremely stressful and difficult circumstances they never expected to encounter. Time is almost always "of the essence" in DLG engagements, as time means money. DLG strives to never have a surprised client by always looking ahead to possible reactions and actions of other involved parties, and by proactively engaging other parties in dialogue through out the engagement. DLG teams work to educate clients about the options available to them and how each option might play out, while recognizing that some factors are always outside the client's control. When surprises do occur, DLG believes in dealing with them as proactively and methodically as possible.

In addition to adopting a proactive approach, the DLG team shares a passion for making a difference in the lives of its clients. Financial "life or death" is often on the line. DLG team members provide professional, calm and guiding influences and counsel through very difficult times. While desired outcomes are not always feasible, DLG will work through each unique situation to maximize troubled situations. DLG's concentration in the field of debt restructuring provides cost-effective results which cannot be matched by large, full-service law firms. Each case is managed to avoid expensive, protracted litigation and to explore all alternative dispute resolution avenues, while being fully prepared to litigate if necessary. The Firm rarely represents secured lenders, so it remains free of potential disqualifying conflicts of interest or "limited" representations, and can quickly jump in to represent borrowers and committees when speed is needed.

Location

DelCotto Law Group practices in a historic 200 year old building, The Abraham Barton House, located in the heart of Gratz Park in downtown Lexington. It takes pride in carrying on the traditions of its Blue Grass Trust and National Historic Register location. The history and ambiance of DLG's working environment is an extension of its philosophies of counseling, civility, congeniality with peers, creativity, professionalism, and serving as representatives of the legal profession as a whole.
